Is the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred Card Worth it?
The biggest draw of the AMEX BCP Card is the 6% grocery bonus (up to $6,000 in grocery spending).
As a result, it's worth paying the $95 annual fee if you spend $250 to $500 on groceries per month.
If you spend more than $500 or less than $250 on groceries, consider:
For Cash Back:
➡️ Capital One SavorOne [3% on Groceries, Dining, Streaming, Entertainment. $0 Annual Fee]
➡️ American Express Blue Cash Everyday [3% on Groceries, Online Retailers, Gas. $0 Annual Fee]
For Travel Rewards:
➡️ American Express Gold Card: [4x AMEX Points on Dining/Groceries (worth 6-8%) and 3x on Flights]
Cash back can be redeemed with no minimums, and only the 3% grocery bonus has an earning cap.
If you want to earn on heavy grocery, streaming, and transit spend, the BCP is a solid option.
The Blue Cash Preferred pairs well with cards that earn well on dining and travel, such as:
➡️ Bilt Mastercard: [3x Bilt Points on Dining (worth 4-6% back) and 2x on Travel]
➡️ American Express Gold Card (as seen above): [4x AMEX Points on Dining and 3x on Flights]
The card is a solid option as a 2nd or 3rd card, as it's of medium difficulty to get approved for.
